If you run a website and saw UtahCirclesBot in your server logs, this page explains who we are, what the bot fetched, why, and how to opt out.
Who we are
Utah Circles is a community platform for finding local events across Utah, at utahcircles.com. UtahCirclesBot is our own crawler — it is not an AI training crawler, a search engine, or a data broker, and we never sell what it collects.
What it fetches
- Organizers’ public event pages — the pages that Utah event listings link to as their original source (for example, a venue’s or organizer’s own event page linked from a Now Playing Utah listing).
- Your robots.txt — read before any other request to a host, and honoured.
Occasionally it also fetches the event image that such a page references, so our listing shows the organizer’s own picture. It does not fetch anything behind a login, does not submit forms, and does not follow links beyond the organizer site our listing points to.
Why
Event details go stale: dates move, doors open at a different time, a show changes venue, a tickets link breaks. When a Utah Circles member reports that one of our listings is wrong — or our own checks suggest it might be — we fetch the event’s original source page and correct the date, time, venue, image, or link only when the source confirms it. The bot exists to keep the information we show about your event accurate.
How often
Rarely, and always about a specific event we list: when a member reports it, when our listing and its source disagree, or shortly before it starts, to re-check the details. Each check fetches a page once, and the bot makes at most one request per host every 5 seconds. If your robots.txt sets a Crawl-delay for it, we wait at least that long instead.
How to opt out
Add a rule for our user agent to your robots.txt and the bot will stop fetching from your site:
User-agent: UtahCirclesBot Disallow: /
Or email hello@utahcircles.com with your domain and we’ll exclude it by hand. Opting out means we can no longer verify corrections to your events against your site, so reported details stay as they were listed.
Contact
hello@utahcircles.com — we’re a small team, and mail about the bot gets read. See also our privacy policy.
